Introduction

If the laser cutter head is ever manually moved by hand, the Glowforge does not realize where the new location of the head is and will base its movements on its previous, software defined position. The Glowforge app can express issues due to this problem.

When Glowforge website shows that it is "Centering" the head for a long time, and then it shows a message that there is a "bump" in the way of the head and prompts you to remove that bump, you can follow this tutorial to fix this issue be rehoming the laser cutter head.

  1. To turn off the laser cutter: Remove the RFID card from the portal box. Wait for the laser cutter lights to go off.

    • Open the Laser Cutter lid.

    • Gently, move the head all the way to the back left corner.

    • The head must be in the extreme back left corner of the bed after you move it.

    • Close the lid.

    • Plug the RFID card back in to turn on the Glowforge laser cutter while the head is in its default location.

    • Since the head is back in the home position (back left corner), the software will run through its normal startup routine properly and allow cut jobs to continue.
